Ghostwriting
Ghostwriting is when someone wants to publish a book but wants someone else to write it for them, while still being credited as the author. The process involves the two of us meeting for a series of "brain-dump" sessions where you tell me the story you want written. Next, I develop a detailed chapter outline and we work together to tailor it to your satisfaction. Once you approve it, I get to writing! The final product is a finished manuscript that is ready for publishing. Your name is listed as the author, and you retain all rights to the book.

Substantive Editing
Also referred to as structural editing, substantive editing is the first step in the manuscript editing process. It refers to reviewing a manuscript as a whole and providing insights into plot structure, plot holes, where text might need to be moved away or amended, and more.

Copyediting
This type of editing can be performed on any type of writing, and is the second step of the manuscript editing process. It includes a thorough review of the text for spelling, grammar and sentence. Copy editing is where your text is made to look its best and shine.


Proofreading
This type of editing can and should be performed on all types of writing products. It is the final step of the editing process and acts as a final look at an already polished product. It intends to catch typos, formatting errors, and anything else that might have been missed in the previous rounds of editing.

Obtaining ISBN
Obtaining an International Standard Book Number (ISBN), which is required before self-publishing a book in Canada. Different formats of the same book require their own unique ISBN, including new editions, new language releases, ebooks, and audiobooks.

Securing a copyright for your book. While getting a federal copyright for your book is optional in Canada, it is highly recommended as it provides legal advantages to protecting your intellectual property.
